Classics research

Classics at Leeds carries out internationally renowned research in the form of both individual scholarship and collaborative projects.

Our research identity is based on a shared concern with the lived experience of Graeco-Roman antiquity as evidenced in its literature, philosophy, values, religion and material culture. Three mutually complementary themes provide focal centres for work within that broad remit:

• Literatures and Philosophies builds on our long-standing strength in classical literature and drama, and the literature/philosophy interface;
• Community and Identity encompasses social, political, ideological and physical aspects of ancient communities;
• Classics Across Media explores the post-classical reception of the classical world in diverse media (including literature, music, film, science), in both 'high' and popular culture.
